The 2009 NCAA Tournament will officially start on Tuesday and not end until the final two teams meet in Detroit. Who will be the players who step up their game during March Madness and carry their teams on their back as they fight for a national championship. Here are several players everyone should keep an eye on during the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
Ty Lawson – North Carolina
If it was not for Tyler Hansbrough, Lawson would be a household name. Without a doubt, Lawson the ACC Player of the Year, is the most athletic point guard in the country and means more to his team than any other player on the court. During the 2008-2009 season, Lawson averaged 15.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. Despite the solid statistics, Lawson makes a real difference for the Tar Heels on the defensive side of the ball and it showed when he missed time during the regular season. The only way Lawson is going to have a disappointing NCAA Tournament is if he defeats himself. He is still not 100% from his toe injury and need be on the court if the Tar Heels are expect to advance deep into March Madness.
Toney Douglas – Florida State
When it came to scoring, Toney Douglas knows how to do it. During the regular season he led the team in scoring in just about every game. And the Florida State Seminoles will need every thing Douglas can muster as they return the NCAA Tournament after an 11 year absence. During the 2008 – 2009 season, Douglas averaged 21.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. When it comes to defense, Douglas is no slouch either, especially when it comes to creating steals. If the Seminoles are going to have any success in the return to March Madness, it will be because of Douglas.
